i was just looking at my tank as i do alot now that i have some sweet stuff in there. and i noticed that my false perc whom iv had for at least a year now has some black spots on him. iv never noticed these before but maby i just haven't looked at him close enof b4 im not sure. but anyways what is this and is it something i should be worried about?

Do you have an anemone in the tank?

no but i do have some torch and some hammer corals. not alot but theres some

mine get that too, its from corals in the tank stinging them from what i understand. the torch and hammer could do it, i know when mine were hosting my toadstool they had the spots.

Yeah mine are hosting a frogspawn and there getting the black spots. And from what I've read about it Jessbear is right.

Everyone that posted is correct. It's just a reaction from your torch or hammer stinging it. No, you don't have anything to worry about. Everything is good.

Very common, nothing to worry about

ok good :) hes eatin as well as he always has so i didnt think there was anything wrong but wanted to b sure. thanks everyone!!

Just found this thread through a search; my false perc is showing similar symptoms. I only have zoas and gsp in my tank, though. Thoughts?

Jess, same thing. Probably the zoas. My clowns host a colony of armor of gods zoas and got those spots when they first started doing it. Now, they are either immune to them or the zoas realize they aren't a threat and just stopped stinging them.
