Are brass fittings on the no no list like copper is?

That's kinda what I thought. I needed to confirm it. I got my hands on a solenoid valve with a brass housing.

What were you planning on using the solenoid for?

I was going to have it feed my RO filter, and electrically interconnect it with a high limit float switch.

I actually found a plastic body solenoid valve on the home depot web page for under $15.

Home water pipes are copper, if it's going into the RODI it may not be a problem.

Also FWIW www.autotopoff.com sells a solenoid set up for this kind of thing. Not sure of the construction off hand, but something you could look into.

Like John said, if you using it before your RO filter it wouldn't be a problem.

That's true the RO would filter it out anyways.
