BRS Mentioned on TalkingReef Podcast.

I just wanted you to know that BRS will be mentioned in the upcoming podcast of the Talking Reef (www.talkingreef.com). Rob Weatherly and I have been having email discussions surrounding my use of Natural Sea Water in my tanks and he was intrigued enough that he asked that I help him with a quick, top level, intro podcast about NSW.

During the interview, he asked me how I was 'turned on' to using NSW. I mentioned BRS and how many members have done this etc. I spoke just a little about a great society, started just a few years ago by a few members and how it has grown into a solid, large, friendly community, recently capable of hosting MACNA.

I'm pretty sure I didn't say anything stupid :)

Rob has also asked me about returning to speak about my interest in H. Reidi since a lot of folks have been asking questions about seahorses on his site. I'll probably do that podcast from sunny Florida in February.

Have a salty day!

Dave

EDIT: Hope you don't mind, I fixed the typo in the link for you.

Sound Great Dave. I'm glad there's now a new way for knowledgable reefers like yourself to share all the experience you've gained from the hobby.

awesome!

Cool! Almost makes me wish I had an Ipod.

It is a good opportunity. What I like about TalkingReef's podcasts is the 'logical order' of his podcasts as it pertains to subject matter. Rob literally started from the ground (or water) up. He also has good relations with MANY reefing communities and wants to promote ownership of the program across those boundaries. It's also a very "newbie" friendly environment, much like BRS as opposed to larger reef communities ;)

I know very little about the technology, but I do hear that it is time consuming and can get expensive. It's something that I'd not be able to commit to. But...if Rob and others do invest in the medium, it makes real sense to tap the resources and help get some good information out there.

Rob has interviewed Stephen Pro and has others lined up for future discussions. He's extended an offer to various associations and societies (to include BRS) to publish recordings of thier meetings or guest speakers as a joint effort to better serve the community as a whole. I have no doubt that if BRS wanted to work on a project with him that he'd be all for it.

Moe...you don't need an iPod... it's a simple MP3 file that can be listened to on any MP3 player or computer.

Ah ha! Very interesting!

No...Moe is waiting to set up his computer...it is in limbo...at this time, he is using a blackberry...until someone takes it away after the patent infringement lawsuit. At that point, he will only be able to communicate with us via smoke signals!

Try Mustard... it's a healthier choice.

M4V, MP4, Mov.. same same... it is just an MPeg 4 format. You should be able to use any program that views movies to see this. Also... this is true only of the "Video" episode(s). The others (audio only) are simple MP3 format.

M4V is just a Mac OS X Version of the streaming video formatted to allow it to be used on iTunes and other RSS type feeder systems .

I am able to play it on Quicktime and other applications. However, Real Player needs updates in order to handle this file type.

I want my reef tv :(

I have subscribed to the Talking Reef since its inception. The first few I listened to were very basic. I'll have to check out the most recent ones. Thanks for the pointer. Very cool that you're involved Dave.

ps....I listen to them in iTunes (on a PC) where you can subscribe to them and you get automatic updates.

Daire..I'm only involved in that Rob asked me some information on the use of Natural Sea Water. Otherwise, I'm just the "end user" like the rest of us.

Rob did start off basic with a "reef for dummies" kind of format and has been working up to more advanced topics. Again, that makes a ton of sense to me from a 'user' standpoint. It also helps 'newbies' find the resource. I'm sure many seasoned reef keepers would NOT be searching for podcasts or other information on the nitrogen cycle :)

Joe... I want my Reef TV too!

I'm going to be on Marlboro's Channel 8 or 10 soon... on a program called "Around the Bases" that covers the Marlboro Youth Baseball Scene. I'm making a fundraiser pitch but will be on TV none the less :D

I'd love to sell Reef TV to Channel 8/10 Marlboro!

Very informative.....I may attempt nsw in the future. I can collect with a boat as well when I fish w/ brother in law. Quick question tho....do I want to start out with small water changes or jump rite into 15- 20 %.....I have a 130 gallon system.

thanks
bob

Jeeeeez Bob, I'm sorry that neither I nor anyone else has replied to your post...

I began using NSW by using just enough to conduct my normal water changes. At that time it was just 10%. When I dealt with the nasty red bugs, I did much larger water changes with NSW. I noticed no problems. Personally, I'd just take the 'standard water change' approach myself. It just seems safer in that you'd not shock the system if there were any major differences in chemistry.

Doooh! Now I'm worried....VERY worried....
