I used black plastic pegboard that are sold in 16 x 16 pieces at Home Depot this is the same stuff I use for my drip trays in my sumps I cut then zip tied then painted everything / spray-painted them with Krylon fusion blue paint to match my DIY background and let the paint dry for three days before submerging in the aquarium here is a pic of the pegboard in the online item number for Home Depot.com
