Can a Euro-Reef RS-135 be run external??

Does anyone know if a Euro-Reef RS-135 can be set up to run externally? If so what do I need in order to set it up from it's stock form.

If anyone has done this and has a picture or 2, that would be great. If it ends up being too much of an investment, I may just look at another external skimmer brand.
Thanks, Mike

You could do a "recirculation mod" then it should be usable externally as long as it didn't leak.

A member has a used one for sale, but if there is too much to add or if the risk is too high, I think I would be better served buying an new external style. I only have about 6" x 12" in my sump for a skimmer. I'm just not happy with the one I have now.

I have no personal exp with the recirc mod. IIRC it's totally sound, but some people may have run into troubles getting a perfect seal where the new hole is added for the recirc pump's inlet.

Try searching for "recirc mod" here. You should find some threads on it.

The uni-seal usually leaks a littel where it goes into the body from the pump. I guess you could glue it but I'd just buy an external skimmer.

I did the recirculation mod (and mesh :D ), and have no leaks at the seal locations, but would never consider sunning it external - way too many possible locations for a leak.

My home theater is below my tank, however (making the tank seem inexpensive by comparison)
