Can I add a layer of courser sand?

I have a 180 gal that was set up beginning of May. Currently having a cyno and diatom problem on my sand and when I increase flow I get some sand being whipped around.
I am wondering if removing a layer of sand from the front of the tank and adding layer of some courser sand would help stop that sand blowing problem..or just adding a layer and not removing any.

Currently have 2 MP40s and 1 Mp10 in tank. I would like to replace the MP10 with another MP40

Any Ideas?

Yes to the courser sand. That's exactly what I did and same reason you are asking. It has stopped the problem.
