Can I take water from my dt to make another tank.

I have a 10g tank that I want to setup for two Ora blue mandarins. Can I take water and LR from my dt and set this up without waiting for a cycle?

They will be going into my 94g dt I want to make sure they are feeding well before they go in.

Well I'm no expert, but I don't see why not.

The bacteria really lives on the surfaces, such as the rocks. There probably isn't much in the water and if there is, it may not colonize the surfaces fast enough. The liverock should work though. The water may help, but probably not. As long as you can move enough rock to the tank, it should be fine. The size of the tank is more the issue, but probably okay for a few days.

It is not a long term tank. I had two Ora mandarins a little while ago and they got lost in my rock work could never tell if they were eating. One ended up jumping the overflow and dried up in my filter sock and the other one lasted a few short days after that.

I plan on having them in their for a week tops while they get used to my feeding schedule. I will be feeding them nutrimar ova which I believe is what Ora feeds them as well. The last two I was told they would eat blood worms and frozen mysis but I never witnessed it.

Hopefully I get better results this time around.

I think you should be fine. I've had to set up emergency tanks with just aged tank water without issues. Adding some pieces of live rock would definitely help though.
