Canopy weight

So I just picked up a canopy for my tank and it seems pretty heavy. I'm not sure what the exact weight is, but I'm concerned about will my tank support it. Best i can tell using a bathroom scale its about 20 pounds. I'm just looking for opinions on how heavy a canopy usually is. Thanks

How big is the tank?

I've got a 125 and with the lights, it's pretty beefy. Plus, there's stuff on top of it. Not a lot, mind you, but stuff that really doesn't need to be there. :o

its a 46 bow, its not completely level, but its as level as i was able to get it. the tanks been up and running for about 6 months

No thats the empty weight, i will be buying a retro kit eventualy and the ballasts will be on the floor.

Maybe someone else will chime in, but I think you're fine. I've seen some pretty robust canopies, and I've never seen one crack a tank.

I woudn't be concerned. If the tank can hold well over 300lbs of water, I'm sure it's plenty sturdy to have the canopy resting on top.

ok thanks, i figured that just looking for reassurance. how high off the water should the lights be, im planning on 2x 150w mh and either 2x pc/t5 actinics. the canopy now will have the lights 13" off the water and Id really like to lower the canopy a little so its not as tall in the room and to make maintenance easier.
