Got a nice healthy carpet anemone from Jays a few days ago. Been looking good in the tank til tonight. Now its all retracted and the mouth looks like it inverted its insides! Its still firmly footed and color doesnt look abnormal but it looks like its insides are hanging out of the mouth. Anyone know about these? I know BTA's will do similar but have never seen the innerds hanging out. Thanks in advance.

mine used to do that all the time and was healthy (if you're describing what i think you are).

But yeah, tank lights param all would be helpful.

Pics would be outstanding too.

Is the carpet a haddoni or some other type?

Sorry. 75g display, 55g sump/refugium. 2x250mh and 2 96w act.. I have a etss 500 skimmer. Water params are all good and stable. ph 8.4 no ammonia, nitrate, nitrite. I am due for a water change. Wish I could figure out how to post pics. Im just confused. It looked fine for the last few days.

Is it a pale greenish with a green foot with purple spots on it? I ask because the only carpet I saw last time I was there was a very large gigantea. If that is the one you got, I'm afraid I don't have reassuring news. Giganteas are the hardest of all the anemones to get healthy and have survive. The symptoms you describe don't sound good if it is a gigantea.

was it in that front tank? It may not be the one I saw there. A pic would really help.

grayish pink foot sounds like a haddoni.. which tend to fare better in captive, but can still be tricky.

Does the mouth look kind of bubbley? If that makes sense? Mine used to do that all the time.. not sure what it was doing, but it wasn't a big deal...

when you really need to start worrying imo is when they wont stay put on the rock..(foot detaches)

I bought the one that was in the front wave front tank. He had two in there. One very large and this smaller one. Joel if you know how to post a pic I would gladly sent 2. One yesterday looking ok and one now.

try using this site.

It's how i do it...

just save the image to your computer, and then upload it too this website. It will give you a link or image code to copy and paste here.

Cool, it is not the gigantea, it definately has a fighting chance. It looks pretty ugly right now, but they do that settling in. What you see is just the mouth tissue. if you see lacey stringy stuff you have a bigger problem, but this is the normal mouth tissue that comes out when they are eating or moving. I wouldn't say you are in the clear by any means, but don't worry yet.

How old is the tank? When you said water parameter is all good, what does that mean in terms of numbers?
I have experienced this type of deflation with new anemones(wild caught). If it happens more than 3times a week, you better pray to the reef god.

So is it a Haddoni? Thanks for the quick responses. Looks like I will just let it be, close my eyes, and keep my nose open for the death smell.

One other thing, let it move on its own but this is a haddoni and they will live in the sand, not on the rock. If it plants its foot and stays that is a good sign.

Anemones are a lot tougher to keep than people give them credit for.
