Caught my first clownfish babies

~Flighty~

Now with more baby
The clutch of pink skunks hatched tonight and I happened by the tank right afterwards. I couldn't just sit and watch the little guys get eaten, so I scooped as many out as I could and will practice raising them. Since they are pink skunks and I was totally unprepared I don't expect any to live, but it will be good practice. This is the first time I have seen them hatch since my skunks seem to always hatch 3-4 hours after lights out for some reason. general rule of thumb is 30 min after, but maybe they are just slow.

I think I got about 25 of them, so I'll try to buy some live rotifers tomorrow. This winter I will get serious with phyto and rotifer cultures.

Does anyone near me have a rot culture going? AG carries a refrigerated live rot product, so I'll plan on trying that.

The little proto-fish are pretty cute.

that's cool! I'm sure it's easier scooping out the live babies once they hatch than pulling out the parents (pre-spawn) and risking them never spawning again.

Good luck & let us know how it goes!

Congrats! You'll have to take pics! :D

Good luck!

That's awesome Cindy. I'm still waiting for my pair to lay some eggs. Good luck raising them. Keep us posted on the progress (and pics of course!).

That's awesome Cindy! I hope you have success with them. I hope our clowns spawn, I'd like to try that.

Rotifer cultures

I have been trying to post this for an hour off and on and kept getting a message : PHP has encountered a Stack overflow

If you google Carolina Biological and then search under cultures rotifer
you will find that they have beginning rotifer starter cultures for $10.25. They ship quickly if you order with a credit card. I think they are in North Carolina.
You can get the cultures going in coke bottles and use an air pump to put in oxygen once a day. I feed them wheat which comes with the starter kits.

Connecticut Valley Biological is in western Mass, I think Southampton, and they have cultures for $5.75 or $5.50 if you order 4 or more.

Both are great places for supplies. They are what I use them for all of my school biological orders.

I jsut don't have time to get cultures going this week, so I am trying them on refrigerated rots. If anyone has a culture close to here or wants to try these themselves let me know. This winter I will be really investing some time and doing it right. This is practice.
