We are in the process of remodeling our downstairs and I have to give up the utility closet I have been using for my 55gallon sump, ATO and storage area for some of my reef stuff that help support my 180 gallon mixed reef DT.
I thought about setting up a smaller sump under the tank but it seems so limiting compared to what I have now plus I would need a new skimmer, pump etc.. to make it all work and still need to set up a mixing station somewhere.
Preferred option for me is to utilize the cellar but I have a couple concerns and would like input from others who may ventured into the cellar fishroom/sump room setup.
My concern is I heat with oil and what magnifies the oil concern is it is a tight space, most of my house is over a crawl space and my actual cellar is only 12' X 24' and then you have a 250 gallon oil tank a boiler stairs plus storage all in that space so you can imagine not a lot of room so I can not frame it in or seal it from the room although I do think I would figure out how to cover/block the tanks maybe with some type of styrofoam enclosure or plexiglass cover.
My questions are really this I guess
- will the oil furnace negatively impact my fish tanks with that much surface area being exposed in the basement?
- Will my oil furnace be negatively impacted by having 100+ gallons of Saltwater in the vicinity?
thanks
