Denitrification & removing phosphates

Sometime back people of these boards became very interested in using clams to use up phosphates and nitrates. There was also interest in setting up cryptic zones as a mechanism for filtration.

Are there any updates? Progress reports?

I used a cryptic zone and it worked well until I had to move and change around my setup.

When you had the cryptic zone, did you go all the way and stop skimming?

No, I was skimming the whole time, but I had goood luck with tube worm and tunicate grawth in the cryptic zone.

I have a 17 gallon cryptic zone in my system, and it has excellent sponge and tube worm growth. I have no empirical data, but my perception is that it has helped lower nitrates.....
