i been dosing bionic part A and B for a while now....and never dosed mag....my question is what does everyone uses to dose for mag?

kent nano reef a & b

Kent marine makes a Magnesium, thats what I use. Not sure if B Ionic does or not, not at my LFS at least.

Magflake walkway de-icer.

Depending on the size of the tank you can use epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) as well. Only thing is if you don't do weekly water changes you could end up having too much sulfate in the tank. That's what I use but weekly-biweekly water changes have been keeping mag in check...

Magnesion from Brightwell works very well. Also BRS MG is great.

dave theres no study that has proven that sulfate has any detrimental affect on a reef, i use epsom salts...also kent has been said to work well

Im sure this goes without saying, but I feel the need to say it anyway... make sure you need to add mag before you add it. Test before you add anything is a rule I always abide by. Just my 2 cents.

thanx alot everyone, i did research and landed on bulkreefsupply....just wanted to see what everyone uses for some feedback...but, i understand now i will test my mag level and go from there....thanks again

Just bear in mind.Mg. should really be a one time dose. Most often after a water change.
Bring the parameter up to 1250-1400 ppm and leave it till the next water change.
Magnesium doesn't deplete like calcium and alk does.

Yeah, once you get the magnesium in the correct parameters,it will stay that way for a long time.Btw,some good reef salt mixes will already have the mag. up around 1250 ppm.
Fwiw,I ran a tank for many months at 1500 ppm with no I'll effects.

Actually Mg is taken up in calcification along with Ca and alk, just not as rapidly. This is why tanks supplemented with kalk tend to get low in Mg.

I use SeaChem Advantage Calcium. I contains both calc and mag. My mag is always 1300-1500.
