Dowflake found

Stabbed by Foulke
I went to the Marlborough Home Depot today to check on the Southdown supply. No dice.

But I did find a pallet of Dowflake near the contractors' check out registers.
First time I've seen it there. Picked up a bag.

For those of you who don't know - this stuff makes a great calcium supplement for your tank. And the best part is it's dirt cheap compared to the aquarium specialty products. :D

The moral of the story is...when it's summer and your looking for dow flake, you won't find it. And when it's winter and your looking for tropical play sand, you won't find it. Stock up when the season is right! :)

Very true. Grab the Dowflake now.

there is 3 pallets in the outdoor section in Shrewsbury HD. I bought 2 the other night...it is near the cement and fertilizer outside in the yard.

Does this stuff replace Kalk?
No.
Kalk is a blanaced calcium + carbonate solution.

This is just the calcium part. It's calcium chloride, which you'll find bottled as Kent Liquid Calcium or Seachem's Reef Complete.

so you buy it and just throw some in the tank no mixing it with anything
No...it needs to be dissolved in fresh water (ro/di) before adding to the tank. Depending on what level you want, it needs to be added slowly and the tank water rechecked after 30min or so after recirculated. Just go slow...

how much is mixed per gal i'm just curious i have a calcium reactor but i was thinking what if it broke i might just buy a couple of bags

Rockland HD has a pallet too.

WARNING!!! They ship this stuff back to a main warehouse once the chance of snow seems to be past
Once it's gone...it's gone until next year!!!!!
