Dry Base Rock

This is my first post. I was in the Bahamas this week on a cruise. I saw football size reef rock all over the beach. I was temped to collect some but did not think it would be wise to go through customs with it. But it got me thinking, I have friends in Tampa that could collect some and ship it to me. I am only looking for dry rock and will not have them collect from the water. Does anyone have any ideas if this is a good idea and if so how would I get it cleaned up.

i have a piece of rock from my honeymoon in Aruba in my tank i just boiled it on the stove
