FYI...I just bid on a bunch of stuffs on Ebay from a seller. However on the last few minutes I was out bid on a few items which was priced $9.99. However on items over $24.99 I wasn't out bid by anyone else. On all items which was $9.99, it was out bid by the same person. My guess is that it's the seller who used another Ebay ID to try to raise the price. I check the history of this person and saw that this person only bid on items from the same seller. My conclusion is the seller used another Ebay ID to try to raise the selling price and has done it several times already.

Does anyone experience this situation before?

my favorite is when your bidding against someone and lose and the next day you get a email saying the winner backed out so you can have it for your last bid.what the hell is that??????that has happened to me i dont know how many times

the funny part is when their history shows like 4 transactions!

That happens alot and is easy to catch. Ebay logs the ip every time the log in. so even if he uses a different computer odds are they have logged in at one time or another with the same ip address on both accounts...

email ebay! get this scum kicked off.

its called shilling (no not Schilling!!!).

happens all the time to me. I deal (buy and sell) alot of sportscards on ebay and the amount of shilling that goes on is absolutely crazy.

i beleive ebay says they will do something about it but i rarely see any action taken.

I've had a lot of problems on ebay, but luckily have caught myself from scams. It happens all the time as I buy and sell on there a lot. Be careful, and you'll be alright.

I won't bid on an item(s) while the auction is in progress. It only raises the price of the item in a pissing contest between who's name is on the winning bid. I use Auction Sniper and bids for me in the last 3 seconds. I win every time provided I feel the price I want to pay is reasonable for what I feel it's worth.

was it live corals?

The guy i use to buy from all the time had all his auctions end around the same time, give or take a min. I would have to pay $50 for shipping, so if i won only one auction it would not be worth it. I would just bid on items that were cheep to make up for the shipping.

I dont think this was a scam, we have to remember, the people that sell frags on e-bay 90% of the time are from LA. In LA the have a dock they go to and buy Large corals for little money, take them back to their systems and cut them up. Even at $9.99 after shipping that guy is still making $$$, maybe even more money then a shop around the east coast selling the same coral for $29.99.

I was often outbid by the same people week after week on items. Seems we were both after the LPS this guy had. The person i delt with would hold my corals week to week if i only won one, till i had 5-6 to make it worh while for me.

This guy I'm buying from charges $45 for shipping so I guess I will email him and ask if he has more of what I want for sale. If not then I will ask him to hold it till I can buy some more.

Just to let you know Peter, I've bought from John (zoafrags.com) on eBay before and he seems to be a standup guy. I bought quite a few at once to combine the shipping and had some DOA. I reported it to him and he replaced the items without question and without any pics even though I offered them. I had to pay the shipping for the replacements though, but it was still worth it and he was so easy to deal with that I didn't mind to much. That was my experience with him.

Not for anything, but you're as bad as the shillers..

Oh, I see another train wreck coming. :D

But I have to agree - I wish they would ban - tools like auction sniper.
It is not fair to be outbid at the last second. If you want something bid for it... not lurk in the alleys at the last minute..:(

I don't see anything wrong with bidding at the last second. I've bid in the last few seconds and still lost because the person before me had a higher max bid than me. I don't use auction sniper or anything like it but I don't see anything wrong with people using it.

Steve - read my post... I did not say anything about bidding last second.
To clarify - I am talking about using an automatic bidder to snipe an auction at the last second.... bidding at the last second - you are right - if the person's max is higher you can still lose.

Me either.. IF you are sitting at your PC bidding.. I think using a bot is just not right.

I thought Ebay didn't allow the use of these systems i.e..... Snipe It

I lost on an Item and emailed the winner who told me they used Snipe it to WIN all auctions at the last minute.

I'm a little confused...for those members who feel that bidding at the last second, whether using a sniping program or actually being at your computer, is immoral/wrong...can i ask why?

i figured this a large part of this country's economy is basically built on the auction process (commodities, stocks, housing).

furthermore, commodities traders often using programs that enter in bids when the traders are doing extreme multitasking.

so i guess i am all for bidding at the last second and using sniping programs.

I don't have a problem with the sniping etc, I think it's fair game. What I don't like is all the retail sales. It's become so commercial that it's hard to find certain items for sale by a private seller. The board is littered with retail items with the minimum bid starting at the the sellers preferred price.

They technically don't 'allow' it but the software out there is good enough that there is no real way for ebay to tell or enforce it.
