EcoTech Marine VorTech Propeller Pump

Please do update this thread when you get it. I have been on the fence for a few weeks about ordering one. Was it $350?

are those the magnetic ones that only have the propeler inside the tank, while the wires are ouside?

id be interested in seeing how those work, I don't know anyone else with one.

When it comes in your more than welcome to stop by Fitchburg and check it out. I'll keep this thread updated.

In and running. First impression. Strong and wide flow. Much stronger than the PH Reef maxi mods. Noise, not bad, a little shake once in awhile. Motor is very good quality (dry side). Wet side not that great. The prop fell of in transit. They don't use loctite on the nut.Materials are so so. You have to move it arouind alot to achieve the flow pattern you want. So far so good. Lets see how it holds up.

Now, here is the $1,000,000 question... Will you buy another Vortech or a Tunze Stream / Nano Stream? I know this is early in your experience but your comment about parts falling off in the box is a bit sad.

there have been several bad reports over on RC,not sure how many they have sold though.

Which forum over there, Liam? Main reef discussion?

Any chance of a picture i haven't seen one in an actual tank just advertisments

I have to wonder how non-biased those beta testers are

Since my tank is viewable on 3 sides, won't work for me.
I'd be pushing water away from my drains

Not really a head to head comparison considering we sold you two custom made Maxijet 900 mods.

As Marco said, side by side comparison at NERAC showed the real flow...

A better comparison is a Tunze Stream 6100. I have one of each - a Stream and a Vortech.

I have one of the new Vortech's and it's difficult to position without blasting corals off live rock. I have a 120g display.

It runs great, but the mounting needs some fine tuning when you first set it up.

I would think the wires on the outside would be an issue if you have children in the home. Plus I think these things are still too new to not have some kinks in them. Plus the other thing I do not like is how do you adjust the direction of flow besides straight out. have to wait and see what people say after using them but so far to me not good for the money you spend on them.

Why would the beta-testers be biased?

Uh, they didn't know the price of what they were testing?
A lot of beta testers get to keep the product afterwards
Do you think they would risk sending a bad unit to a beta tester?

I prefer to wait until the gotta-haves buy some & we get real world volume testing
