feeding question... away this weekend

Just wondering.. I have just started to feed clams/mussels. I am going away for the weekend.. If I leave an opened clam on a fish clip in my fist tank that should keep my fish for a day or two as it takes them a while to get at the food this way. My question is will this foul my tank? I also hatched baby brine shrimp and figure that will keep them for a while. (I have a feeder coming in who will do flake food only...)

thanks

Depending on how long your weekend is, I wouldn't even bother. For example, if we're leaving Friday night and coming back Sunday night, I would just make sure the fish are fed nicely before I leave and feed the fish nicely immediately when I get home. Even when we're back on Monday night, I usually don't have anything for them.

Clam on a half shell is great. However, uneaten clam will foul your water pretty quickly(6+hours). Often time, the fish will just ignore the clam after they got enough of it. And often time, they rip the clams off the shell and it just floats into some crevice in the rock.

I do pellets and flakes on an Ehiem automated feeder when I'm away for more than 5 days. Otherwise, they go hungry for a bit.

I agree. Don't leave the clam in your tank and don't let your fish use your credit card. They will be fine and probably won't even miss you.
If you know a Supermodel who is free and wants to feed your fish, that is what I do. But in lieu of that. Enjoy your trip.

thanks!! Yes they are well fed.. will take the remainder of the clam out of the tank...!

Neptune, I forgot you are a girl. You could forego the Supermodel. You won't need her. Your fish will be fine. :.
