Few plumbing/space questions

I am in the beginning stages of planning out my overflow/plumbing and was wondering if anyone could tell me how much a 1" or 1.5" bulkhead and 90deg elbow sticks out behind the tank if installed on the back wall? I need to keep the aquarium as close to our living room wall as possible, so I was originally planning on drilling the bottom of the tank, but would really rather do the back wall instead if I could make it work. Also, How much does an installed 1" or 1.5" bulkhead stick out into the aquarium?

Thanks,

Matt

Like 4 inches.
I have one on my refugium set u9 that way.
BTW,it's not really a good idea to be too close to the wall. All kinds of disadvantages doing that.

Thanks, I realize that you don't want to be too close to the wall, but I am walking a thin line with the wife on the aquarium so I have to appeal to her aesthetics and she doesn't like how much the 12" depth tank sticks out (moving to 18")... Just need to make sure the wall is protected from splashes that I am sure to have happen.

My girl is the same way. If she thinks the 12" is too big she will def be unhappy with 22+. If the bottom isnt tempered go for that. Are you concerned about sound? Cuz you will have the ability to have much quieter drain if bottom plumbed vs back.
