Hi everyone,

Was wondering if you guys could help me put together a list of fish, critters, corals, etc. For my tank. It's a 50g cube and I'm staying away from predators for now at least

List of what I'm thinking so far:

Fish-
2 clown fish
Watchman goby
Chromis

Cleaners-
Hermit crabs

Shrimp-
Cleaner shrimp
Pistol shrimp

Corals-

Anemones-
Bubble Tip Anemone

Please add to this list :)

Fish: Anthias and blennies are very friendly. Cleaners: I would definitely get a couple green emerald crabs. They're awesome at cleaning and I find that they don't knock stuff around as much as the hermits. Fire shrimps are well behaved and the bright red is nice. Corals: I don't know what you have set up so I can't really recommend anything.

Best advice is start slow. Tendency is to jam everything in the first month.

Do you have a qt tank. No qt means you will have fish disease issues and if you have a budget multiply it by 5 because you will lose many fish.

If you are looking for clowns to host an anemone look into the kind of clowns you want then look into the anemones they host. Bubble tips are not the natural host of many clowns but they are the most attractive/available in the hobby.

Anemones also move around when first introduced so they are best added before coral so they don't sting expensive frags

Are you sure your tank is cycled? It wasn't too long ago you were asking about plumbing. What did you do for cycling?

What are the dimensions of the tank? You want to chose appropriate fish for your dimensions not necessarily the gallons of your tank.

Anthias need swimming room so a 50 cube is not a good tank for them.

I have the same tank. It's 2'x2'x20" tall. I would not put any fish that are "big swimmers" like Anthias, as you thought. Any of the nano fish make great additions. Clowns are perfect as well. So you are definitely on the right track. A smaller Blenny like a Tailspot would great as well.

Thanks for the input everyone! My dimensions for the tank are 24x24x20. I purchased live rock from a user on the forum which definitely sped up the growth process. I had my local fish store (lovely pets) test my water and give me the green light. I was advised to hold off on things such as shrimp for about a month. So I'll be taking my sweet time adding everything in.

I purchased 6 hermit crabs to start with and they all seem to be doing well so far. I then ordered a whole cleaning crew which will probably arrive next week. Baby steps for me :)

Here's my updated to buy/bought list:

Fish-
2 Ocellaris Clown Fish
Yellow Watchman goby
Chromis
Tailspot Blenny

Cleaners-
6 Hermit crabs
25 Blue Leg Hermit Crabs
5 Red Leg Hermit Crabs
2 Emerald Crabs
1 Starfish
20 Nassarius Snails
20 Cerith Snails

Shrimp-
Cleaner shrimp
Tiger Pistol shrimp

Corals-

Anemones-
Bubble Tip Anemone

I like the list! I would suggest only doing 1-2 Chromis. I've never kept any myself but I know trying to do groups will usually result in only one or two. Plus 5-6 fish in the tank will be plenty.
