formula two

Is there an easy way of feeding this mushy frozen food? I was originally told to soften in water then squish it into the tank, then I was told that doing it that way, a lot of the food disolves into particles too small and just adds waste to the tank, which I do see. So then it was suggested to me to slice it up frozen but this is easier said than done. It's really hard to cut it up real small without making a complete mess. I tried a garlic press (which my husband thought was genious) but that didn't work either, just made a huge mess. So how do you guys feed this food effectively without making a mess?

Thanks,
~Ryan

Are you just feeding the tank - corals in general?
Fish?
Or something specific?

I just put it in the tank, fish eat what they can, corals take in what they can from the water

tank water in a cup sit for 5 minutes then smush it with a turkey baster, works for all foods, but formula 2 is one of the hardest
Duds

I let it defrost at room temp for a few minutes and then break off small pieces and drop into the tank. With formula 1 and 2 I don't use water to thaw it. Works well for me.

I like to use it unthawed, but when I cut some off of the cube, I shave very thin peices. It instantly thaws, and the fish attack it.
All most all of my fish, come to the surface as soon as a molecule hits the water. IME, also try to feed lightly, as much as they can eat in a minute or so. And whatever is left, indirectly feeds my lps, zoanthids and cleanup crew.

I've also used the Formula Two pellets with garlic. The fish love them as a treat. What's left dissolves in the water column. I use this in addition to other frozen foods which I put in water from the tank on the lightstrip for about 5 min and then drop in. Some others I've talked to drop the frozen chunk right in the water. It thaws rapidly.

I find that the gel formula 2 is difficult to feed properly in a normal reef tank. In the fish stores it makes a lot of sense because they are barebottomed and without much live rock. I primarliy use the formula 2 flake, nori, and mysis. I've tried the pellets but they sink too quickly for my fish.

formula one and two bonding gel is a PIA to dissolve.

I just smush it with my fingers after dissolving or I use a paring knife. I wonder if a egg slicer would work well????? HMMMM need to try that one.

eek no way i'll touch that with my fingers :D
