Fun little Tank Overhaul

Had the pleasure of dealing with a massive water change on a friend's tank. Safe to say, he need serious help.

In 20+ years of keeping marine aquaria, I've never seen such thick dark death. How about y'all?

How did his tank get so effed? As someone who topped off with tap water for two years I know how it can hit the fan but I still had clear water (just massive GHA)
