Hi
So who here has goniopora in their tanks for more than a year? I have 2 reds and one brown/orange that I have had for 3 years and are doing well. A blue and pink (see photo section) that I have had for 1.5 or so years and an encrusting that is spreading but doesnt have much polyp extention.....Gave up on the green flower pots

thanks !
Frank

A friend of mine down in PA, Rich Knecht, has had a Red Goniopora in captivity for well over 10 years now and it has dropped multiple babies in that time period.

wow great, the red flowerpots are pretty rare and expensive. I havent seen them at any of the lfs for under 150.

I think I got my encrusting red at Jays and it spreads like gsp does.......

Yeah, the encrusting red ones are very neat. Once my new system is well established, I've been tempted to try my hands at a red or purple flower pot. There are a few nice red Alveopora around as well. We'll see.

I have a green goni that I have fragged multiple times. I also have a red that I got as a frag 3 years ago and a purple that was a wild colony collected about years ago. I bought a screamimg yellow australian goni about 6 mos ago that has since turned to a pale pinkish color with a blue dot in the center of each polyp. I remember buying these 10-12 years ago and being happy if it stayed alive for 6 mos. The green gonis seem to be the most difficult imo/ime.

Seaworld had a bunch of Red Goni for a decent price. I bought a couple so I'm trying my hand at Red Goni for the first time.

>I have a green goni that I have fragged multiple times<

I got one from Don. It clearly grew for a while, encrusting across the concrete square I'd glued it to, but more recently has been fading a bit. I think it was being stung by a nearby Anchor coral to some extent.

I've had, and fragged a red goni. I've had it maybe 3 years or so. Clearly still growing with good polyp extension, even with some pink skunk clowns going into it on a regular basis.

I would for sure stay away from the spherical shapped green ones that most shops carry. They have a very poor survival rate. IMO, pony up the $ for a red one and have it survive.

I agree with Greg about the green.

Ray, Sea world had red flowerpot goni? The ones I have always seen there are green flowerpots and are moderately priced......

Frank they had/have the red flowerpot goni. I'll snap a couple pics later tonight and post. The spherical one I brought home is just now opening up and I've had it for two weeks. In all fairness though it was tough to get it to settle in with Wrasses and CUC knocking it around because soemthing new was in the tank and HAD to see if there were any treats on the underside. Just doing their job right?

The flat frag opened right up and is showing signs of growth already. I always have really good luck with coral from SW.
