Green cap turning white

dcforester1

Finally enjoying my tank
I have had some cap that has been doing fine for a couple of months. They are in the same spot. My parm are in check, except trates at 25. I am wondering if this is a sign of the bulbs getting old, or high nitrates? I have new PC light, but my halides I am, not sure of. I bought the fixture used so they prob need to be replaced. Just wondering if that is a sign of lights getting old, stuff starting to get white?

TIA derek

Its def not the sosa. LOL I know the trates are high, but would that cause them to start turning white, or do you think the bulbs getting old?

i would definately start with a water change to get your nitrates down to zero , and try to find the cause of them

how old are your bulbs ?
are they mh?

Derek,is it just turning white or is there flesh seperating from the skeleton?
I had this happen and attributed it to an alk spike that I caused by overdosing.

Thanks Bob, thats what it ended up being.

I think I boosted my alk from like 6.5 to 8-9 dkh in one day.
And the green cap was directly under the return line from the basement sump.
That was the only thing that died, but earlier that month I had a birdsnest rtn in the just about the same spot.
