Green Hair Algae and Adding New Corals.

I have some rock in my tank with 1/2" to 1" of hair algae just kind of sitting there and was wondering if I put a frag of coral on there if it would be ok?. I know that I need to reduce my nutrients and increase water changes as my main defense against algae (hair algae in this instance) ... but if I add a frag of coral to a rock that has green hair algae what will happen?

The algae might overtake the coral and kill it

Mexican turbo snails are really good at eating green hair algae

A wire brush does a better job. Just rinse it with tank water after. I get the turbo snails for it as well.
