GSM "digging" and won't stop

deynon09

Mid-life Reefer
I got a couple of GSM's a little while ago and the larger female is really annoying me. I got them a purple neon tip anemone and they hosted it immediately. They all are in the front of the tank at the bottom and under a rock and the female keeps fanning about 3" deep of sand out of the way. When I go up to the glass, she'll look at me, turn around and fan sand at me, then I'll go to another part of the tank and she'll do the exact same thing. I keep pushing the sand back and she pushes it out of the way. I wouldn't mind so much if she'd stop once in a while, but she never does. If I let it go, she'd dig to the bottom. I'm setting up my QT and was going to move her to that, but is this behavior normal?

Very normal and pushing the sand back is a loosing battle. Moving your anemone up if it is low might help.

When I do, It moves back under the rock.

I have a blue damsel that does the same thing.
I know this is bad etiquette,but I've often thought about making a mini-spear gun.

Sometimes they are looking for food, had a yellow damsel that used to kick up sand all the time, he was eating stuff that was living in the sand.
