I used to use the stuff back in the 90's.
The current thinking, from what I've read, is that it doesn't do anything.

I`ve never used the SW one but did see a difrence in cycle time in my FW tank.

Snake oil :)

I have some of this stuff that you can have, return the thing to the store ASAP.

Like Moe, I used it back in the 90's. My opinion now, get a cup of sand from a buddy's tank and you will be WAY ahead.

We use it in our lobster tank at work. I add a teaspoon or so every month. but we have a huge bioload in a smallish tank. we also run into the problem of stray chemicals getting into the tank and killing alot of the beneficial bacteria. so we use it as a preventative measure to keep up the levels.

TBS actually sends you something similar in a plastic bag to mix in withe the rock and sand. I guess the key is to totally disolve it in water and then add it. I wouldn't think it's "snake oil" since it is bacteria. Don't know if it helped at all or not, but my tank cycled in just under 4 days, and barely reached 1ppm of ammonia in the process. It went up to that in one day, then after a small water change dropped to .5ppm, the next day it was at .25 in the am and zero by the time I got home. Been at 0ppm since.
