Having trouble inserting new DE bulbs

Paula

I'm still around . ..
Hi all,
I have a Geisemann 260 unit and now that it has been running a year it is time to change the bulbs. I had trouble getting the bulbs out - in fact one of them broke. Now I can't get the new bulbs into the socket.
Is there a trick to this? or is it just brute force? I would hate to break the ceramic socket and/or the bulb.

HELP!

Paula

I would not force them in , I am not familiar with the Geisemann unit but on the reef optix III's I have had this problem and I would slightly loosen the ceramic sockets to alow the new bulb to seat and then retighten, Make sure to wipe the bulb free of finger prints(you can use rubbing alcohol).

I have also gone as far as to take a pic and spread the contacts in the ceramic socket while inserting the bulb to make it eaiser, just make sure not to spread to much were the bulb fits loosely.

I just recently had this same problem. Inserting a Geiseman bulb into a reefoptix pendant and it broke. My husband also used I think it was a screwdriver to help widen the contacts but it broke anyway. He put back in my old AB bulb without too much of a problem.

Be careful while doing it, breaking brand new $100 bulbs is not fun.

I agree that the DE 250 sockets are very poorly designed and are very difficult to deal with. What I do is take a very small screwdriver, a little bit larger than the size you would use for eyeglasses. I insert this in the socket beyond the very end of the bulb. Then give it a ? turn this opens the spring socket just enough to let the bulb slip in a little easier. Don?t get me wrong it?s still tight and needs a little pressure but it helps a lot.
