i am sure i will have alot of questions as my cycle time comes to a end
the only question is how much lighting i will need
i have a 40 gallon tank with a 404fluval and a magnum350 and 1 powerhead
will be looking to upgrade once i am sure i can keep some really hardy fish and coral alive

Light totally depends on what you wish to keep. The general rule in aquariums is choose what you want to keep and then design your system to meet the needs of those organisms. For example, mushrooms don't always do well in systems designed for SPS because SPS systems have too much light and may be too clean from very heavy skimming.

Where do you live?
A 90 gal should make a nice reef. I wish you luck.
If I could help with that controller, I'd offer advice. :p
