Help Me Choose: Deltec MC500 vs. Euro Reef 8-1

I am looking for a new skimmer and considering b/t a Deltec MC500 and a Euro-Reef 8-1. This will be going on a 90 gallon reef.

Any opinions on which one to choose would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

You are not really comparing apples to apples here.
The Mc 500 has it's place (tight or no sump, I've even mounted them in the corner of a main tank) but if you have the sump space for a 8-1, then I'd say the Mc500 loses it's advantage. Like Liam said the AP-600 of APF-600 would be the better comparison.

I do have space in the sump, although will not be a lot. My biggest problem is in height and any of the 24" skimmers are out of the question.

Pricing is also a consideration. I see that the 600 goes for close to 600 whereas the 500 is just over 400 and I can get the ER for a bit over 400 as well.

Will one perform better than the other? Is one more durable?

The Deltec will out perform the Euroreef by far! Check out the Deltec forum on Reef Central for all kinds of information:

I run the APF600 on my 120G tank and love it. The beauty of the AP or APF600 is you can gravity feed the skimmer from your overflow. There is no need for an extra feed pump sucking up electricity and adding heat to your system.

There is a reason Euroreef copied the design of the deltec with their new recirc design. so that being what it is another thing to consider is comparing the price of a recirc Euroreef to a deltec

YOU might want to look at the ASM skimmers too. Just look at the body size, not the ratings. Get one the same body size as the euroreef you're looking at.

Will the Deltec that I am looking at not skim with the same efficiency as the euro reef 8-1?
