help on new shaving brush order

Hi All,
Just received order from Saltwaterfish.com.
all cleanup crew are great but the container smelled. Found it to be the bag of 5 shaving brushes I got for the sump to keep the cheato happy.

I isolated them but they smell like the bottom of the sump after pumping for cleaning.

Is this normal?
should I tank water dip and clean and, of course, toss water?
or toss them out with the compost?
