Help!!!!!!!!!!!! with leaky PVC

Just added a frag tank to my setup.... And the PVC comming from the return bulkhead is leaking.... Don't really wanna cut my plumbing apart and buy a new bulkhead.... Is there anyway to fix this like Teflon tape or 2 part epoxy ???

Where exactly is it leaking?

If it's coming from the bulkhead itself, the bulkhead may be installed incorrectly or cracked. The bulkhead needs to be installed with the gasket against the flange. If the gasket is on the nut side, that is the problem.

Whatever the case, you can cut the PVC, make whatever repair and then reconnect it using a "union" or a "coupling".

Sounds like is the bulkhead to glass on inside tank got moved in your pluming a new frag tank in... drain over flow lossen bulkhead nut and then re tighten... if it realluy is between the bulkhead and pvc is it threaded together or slip???? if slip a little more cleaner and glue cant hurt temp untill its re done... if its thread take it apart and more tape and re do.....

Then if you're positive it's the pipe to bulkhead joint, then there is not much you can do except cut it out and replace it. You could try gooping epoxy all over the outside, but personally I would want to fix it right.

That said, a properly cemented fitting should never leak. Can you describe how you went about the cementing process?

Also, I know you said it was definately the pipe to bulkhead joint, but are you absolutely certain? Have you double checked how the bulkhead is installed? Have you double checked the bulkhead for a crack? Double checked how the gasket is installed. Again, unless you made a mistake in the cementing process, the cemented socket fitting is the least likely way/place for a bulkhead to leak.

Sorry to be repetative, just trying to help

Thank you John for the replies .......my system is all hard plumbed this is the only leak.... Bulkhead is on right ..... It's either a bad seal or maybe a bad gasket...... Guess like I'm cutting PVC and buying a new bulkhead damit

Well hold on though. Trouble shoot. If the gasket is installed wrong, you can cut the pipe, pull the bulkhead, fix the gasket, and then reassemble using a $.50 coupling insted of a $10 bulkhead.

Can you post a pic or two? Where exactly are you finding the drips? If it's the gasket, the water will be creeping through the threads on the outside of the bulkhead and will most likely appear where the nut meets the threads.

You have to REALLY mess up cementing to have a cemented joint leak.

Did you reach in and feel all the way around the bulkhead? From that pic it looks like it could easily be creeping down the bulkhead, maybe on the back where you can't see. Then again, looks like you wouldn't have room to cut it out and repair with a coupling as I had suggested so I guess it doesn't matter what the problem is, you'll have to cut it out and replace regardless. Bummer...

Where is the gasket? Is it visable between the glass and the nut?

After thinking about it....... I think I have 2 separate leaks........ The return pump is off and it's still leaking ..... But honestly the leak looks like it's from the PVC and not the bulkhead.... I'm gonna wait till the morning and drain the overflow and see what's up

In the AM, check where that gasket is. If it's in the wrong place you've found your problem.

If the cemented joints are leaking, you either have bad cement/primer, or a problem with your technique.

To cement correctly (if I'm off on any point, anyone please corrrect me);
Cut pipe square
Clean up sharp edge with a special tool or sandpaper
Apply primer to inside of socket and outside of pipe
Apply cement to the inside of the socket and the outside of the pipe
Push pipe in and rotate about 1/4 turn to seat it all the way

if its just around the pvc and bulkhead. take a napkin(to protect from drip) put it under the pipe. use the cement and go around the pipe one clean time. let it sit for like 15 mins then check.

Just a update .... It's was bad gluing I dunno how but it was.....I fixed the problem by cutting the old PVC flush with the bulkhead then added a female connecter to the bulkhead so I didn't have to get new bulkheahds
