help with lighting

one 250w DE 12 inch above water surface

I run a fixture w/1x250 DE and 2x96w PC's about a foot above a 40 breeder and i have plenty of spread and enough light to do pretty much anything.

SE = single ended, the screw in mogul bulbs.
DE = The smaller double ended bulbs.

Overkill and would be a heat issue. If you want put in a few pc's or t5 to boost it.

On a 40b sps tank, a pair of 175/150's would be much better than a single 250. Using quality reflectors (lumenmax/lumenbrights) is the most important factor. Definately not overkill as the best SPS tanks out there usually use "too much" mh light. If you are just starting, a pair of 175 Iwasaki 14k's will give you great growth and color. Heat is really a non-issue if you mount your lights 12"+ above the water. A small fan should help out on those hot days. I have a RK controller to run all my lights, set to turn them off at 85*.

Ok just pruced out what was recomended and i have to ask what kind of led setup would i need over a 40?

Come by and take a look at my two 40 breeders, one lit by a LED and one by a 250w DE halide
