Hey guys, it's been a while!

One Eye

former vp of pr
What's up guys? I've been busy for a while, moved, holidays, blah, blah....

Whatever it was that wiped out my tank during the move has finaly run it's course. I'm going to blame it on nudibranchs dieing in the move and releasing toxins??? Params are back in check and the nasty flesh like tan colored algea has finaly run it's course. Only time took care of this tan flesh like stuff. I did daily water changes, scrubbed the rock, dropped the temp to the lower 70's....gave up, turned my back on the hobby for a couple of months and just let it run, only adding top off water when the pumps started to whine for it.

I added a green Hydnophora and the old faithful orange cap about a month ago. Both are doing well, so I guess I'm jumping back in head first! :D

Oh ya, I started filling the new system last night. This one has a 75 gal and a 46 gal bow linked together with a 65 gal sump and a 20 gal refugium.

Good to hear from you again, One Eye!
The new project looks good. I gotta get my a** in gear. ;)

I was wondering where you got to. Glad to see you are back. :) If you need anything, remember, I am right down the road.

Nice to have you back again, hope all went well with the move and good luck with the new house.

Jim

I've got the basic plumbing done. I finaly drilled the tanks so I don't have to deal with external overflows (they always fail on me) I haven't made up my mind on waterflow yet. I figured I'd fill it and add some rock to get the cycle started and get some ideas from you guys while it cycles.

Here's the back of the 75. 2 large hole are overflows. the 2 outside holes I figured for a scwd or something simular. The center hole I figured a spray bar type pvc thing, burried behing the rock to help keep detrius from building up.

Here's the spray bar. It's just 3/4 pvc, capped at the ends with holes drilled along the length. Think it'll work?

Hey One Eye good to see you out and about. Yes Mo you do.:)

Hey good to see you!! We were afraid you were frozen to a 2x4 out in a field somewhere.
I have a Toadstool-frag for you if you want, maybe some shrooms too. And of course Xenia!!!
Going to the meeting this weekend?

Denvig, your right Moe's gotta get moving! I felt kinda guilty letting things go for a couple months, Moe's got me beat by about a year!

Dave, I was frozen to a 2x4....I got better. I'd like to make the meet but I let the boys go in without me today, I may have to work Saturday to fix today's mess!!

So what do you think about water flow? Scwd, Ocean motion?

How about return pumps? I was thinking a Mag 24 in sump.

Darren...what up? Good to see ya. Are you going to be at the meeting this weekend?

Question for you. Remember last year...when you had that "table acro accident"? I ended up with a frag of it. I've been trying to ID it (it's awesome, deep purple with accents of flourescent greens). Do you know what it is?

Welcome back again...

Dave

The spraybar will work, I have a similar arrangement and as you mentioned it really helps prevent dead spots behind the rockwork (I drilled a few rows of holes on the PVC, some pointing upwards, some pointing downwards, to get better flow).

One thing you want to make sure is that you're not restricting flow too much with the spraybar... what I did was I added up the areas of all individual holes and made sure I had enough of them to be at least equal to the area of an open 3/4" hole.

FWIW, I have the spraybar on one of the 4 returns of an OceanMotions Squirt, pushing around 1200gph.

Dave, I don't know if I'll make the meeting but I'd like to hook up and buy a frag of that table back from you.:)

Nunofs, I drilled the holes faceing straight out and angled up so I don't disrupt the sand. I also gave the spraybar a seperate line in with a ball valve so I can regulate the flow. I was going to look into the oceanmotion, what kind of pump do you have driving it? And do you like it?

I have some holes pointing down and they don't disrupt the sand too much as the flow is spread out among a lot of tiny holes... just something to think about.

I'm currently using a Velocity T4, rated at 1225gph, on the closed-loop, IMO it gives really good flow... I'm at the threshold of the Squirt's capacity, but I think any more flow and I'd be blowing sand all over the tank. I really like the pump, it's very quiet and although it adds a bit of heat to the tank, it's a trade-off I'm happy to make.

Ya, so I get back into the swing of things. I go to AquaAddicts and pick up a couple sps. I get home and drop the bag in the driveway! So I guess I really am back:)

Just started up the pump for the 75 gal and refugium. No leaks! For once in this hobby, things went as planned! About 45 more gallons of rodi and I can fire up the 46.

Woo hooo! Pics, pics, pics!
