HOB Refigium weight question.

I bought a CPR HOB Refigium of a BRS member tonight.

It is the medium version about 19" long.

When I filled it up it seems very heavy. My tank is a 30 gal.

Will this be ok? He had it on a 46? Is the way it is designed distribute the weight?? There are no tank size rec. on Dr Fosters or any other site that I can find

Im not sure about the weight but if you are get too worried i have been looking for one i will glady take it off your hands to put on my 65.

there should not be any problem. The refugium will weight about 20 lbs when full,

I also have bak 2 skimmer hanging. I think I will do it but I want to add sand and am starting to get worried about the weight?

try putting something under it to take some of the strain and weight off the edge.

It should not be a problem for a 30 gallon tank (itself weight about ~250 lbs when full). I had the same refugium on a 20 gallon long without problem.

I have the exact same one on the back of a 40 tall with the little light you buy for it and everything - oh and next to that I have a bio wheel filter I use to run carbon, perhaps 30 pounds hanging on it. No problems whatsoever. Good luck, and consider miracle mud for a substrate, I use it and every type of macro that I used in there grew very well - and it (as advertised) helped start to reverse the lateral line erosion on a rescued YT I got a while back.

One more tip. Do not, I repeat DO NOT let anything plug up the drain hole in that thing. I did it twice, and it will just overflow untill the water level in the main tank drains below the Hang-ons intake power head. Think, maybe 5-7 gallons of water on your floor. Additionally, one of the two times, I put a filter pad in there trying to prevent algae from getting in there and plugging it up, and what happened is that the filter pad slowed the rate of the water draining OUT of the Hang on and so it slowly overflowed all night while I was sleeping because the pump was bringing in water faster than it could get out. So just be careful there.

Thanks Flave, the guy I purchased it off warned me about this but said it never happened to him. I will probably check the drain a few times a month
