Most Pistol Shrimp and alot of small Gobies will hide for some time just after you introduce them. I don't see my Yellow Watchman Goby and my Target Pistol Shrimp more than once or twice a week and they've been in there for about 6 months. Give it some time and you'll probably be surprised one of these days when they come out.

Bummer about your lumpy head, but I wouldn't fret too much about the goby and shrimp. They often disappear or even separate for a week when introduced, and I doubt anything's wrong with them. Look for new piles of sand at the base of rocks, and soon you'll find the shrimp and goby hanging out together at the mouth of their new cave.

What kind of goby and shrimp?

they didnt exactly know what type of goby it was I know it was sometype of watchman goby but not sure what type I was going to take a pic and post here but cant now, shrimp was a candy cane pistol red and white body, hopefully they come out, my head kills at first I thought I was bleeding but it was the water that i was transfering to the bucket where the fish were

Sounds like a Peppermint Shrimp. I have 5 of them and rarely saw them when they were first introduced to the tank. It took a while for the goby to come out and hook up with the shrimp. Give it time. It will come around.

Sorry about your head....at least you're on vacation for the week.

I think he's got a red and white Candy Cane Pistol Shrimp (also called a Randalls pistol shrimp). Gobies don't (normally) pair up with Peppermint Shrimp. They only pair with Alpheus sp. shrimp. Peppermints are Lysmata sp..

I hardly ever see my yellow watchman-- only during feeding time and even then he sometimes feeds behind the LR so that you can't see him. We see him so little that my wife and son have named him useless.

I had a YasheHaze Goby for a while, and he generally chose a cave with a good view of the front glass, I think he liked to see what was going on out in the world. He was almost always visible, half-in is cave, and would scoot out at feeding time to gulp up mysis in his HUGE mouth. His candy cane shrimps (which came and went - there were probably 3 or 4 in his years) were rarely seen, but occasionally they'd venture out under the goby's watchful eye. That was one of my favorite fish.

pair as in goby and shrimp I think.

yea i meant pair as in shrimp and goby, the head pain is slowly going away

The night my husband brought home a tiny (1") watchman and his already paired up pistol shirmp, he also brought home beautiful Randalls goby (1 1/2")too. Everything acclimated well, the Randall's hooked right up with the shrimp, and the Watchman swam all over the top of the tank.
The next day, we didn't see anything. None of them. We thought for sure they would hide forever, because we could find no sign of them anywhere. (even looked in powerheads, ect..)
Then maybe a day or so after, I was searching the tank for all three. In a crevice in the LR, I found the Randall's, dead :(
Not even five minutes after noticing him a giant bristleworm came and took him away
The next day, I found the Yellow watchman AND the pistol shrimp, back together and in a burrow toward the front of the tank. They've been happy since, and no trouble feeding or burrowing. Just normal paired up behavior.
I have no idea if the Yellow beat up the Randalls, but most books say that a Randalls will even share his burrow with another goby. So we added them at the same time to even out the score, so to speak.
He was a gorgeous fish too. Bummer.

Sorry, I tend to get long winded. I hope your pair shows up. They really are neat to watch.
Good luck,

Steph

Moe, you still got that crutch handy? Or have you upgraded to a cane now? I'm sure you can teach him a lesson with that thing. :)
