How does a Kalk Reactor actually work???

Aquadiva

I know the basics: put the kalk in, somehow it mixes the incoming Ro/Di (magnet thingy or pump) and tops off the tank with an auto top-off mechanism.

Here's what confuses me... normally you mix kalk and water, wait for it to settle/separate and dose kalk water. So, if you use a kalk reactor how does the lime water separate? Do you wind up dosing non-separated kalk water? Most of the reactors I've seen just look like an acrylic tube with some sort of stirring mechanism. I'm probably missing something.

BTW...already looked in the useful threads.... thread.... and there was just a comparison between Ca Reactors and Kalk Reactors. I know the difference...just don't know how it actually works.

TIA

The stirrer usually only runs a couple minutes a day. So most of the day, you're just dosing saturated Kalk.

The reasoning for the tall tube is that the clear water at the top is saturated. When the water and kalk is stirred, it does not disturb the top of the chamber. When water is added, it is added at the bottom of the tank, so it has to rise through the kalk slurry in order to reach the top. My kalk reactor is like 4" tall and the top 2 feet are always clear.

Ahhhhhh....I think I get it. So whatever method is used to stir the lime water, doesn't do it very vigorously, I guess...So really, only the bottom of the tube that gets mixed and the saturated water gets pushed to the top. Makes perfect sense, now. DOH !!!!

Thanks Brian
