too many gadgets to fail
I use an octopus 3000 controller by aquadyne. I have the x-10 interface & it pretty much controls the tank from heating to lighting & eventually chilling when I decide on a chiller I like. I have three probes for monitoring orp, ph, & temp. I have it set up with alarms & monitoring in case the tank gets to warm or to cold. In case of an alarm when I'm not home it will have a message on the screen that will scroll if the alarm was activated. It will state what area was effected. The alarm will only sound for a disclosed amount of time & reset. Once it resets it will show the message prompt. I like it & pretty much feel lost if it goes down. (a power failure wiped out the software couple years back & I had to send it back to the mfg to be reprogramed) My fault for not having it on a surge protected outlet. Once you use one you never want to go back to not having it. They can be quite expensive with all the attachments but they are worth the money.
