How long do fish live?

I am just wondering how old some of the other reefers fish are.
My first Saltwater fish were a clown and yellow tang from Petco 7 years ago and I still have then followed by some green chromis, 6 years ago, which I also still have.
And my dog is 17 years old!

I am sure there are some great old fish out there!

This is funny.. my very first salt water fish was a petco ocellaris.. January 2004.

I had true percs last about 10 years... Was told that it was most likely to old age....I got them as adults so I'm not sure how old they were... The lower the salinity the shorter the life cycle... (due to the faster heart rate) that cuts the life of a fish by two fold

I ran a SWFO tank for 10 years before I went to a reef. Ran it at a low salinity to combat oodium & other parasites....Fish were fat & healthy....but they would never live over 4 or so years.....

Joe told me he has had a pair of true percs aprox 20 years... not exact on how long he has had them but that is a while.... (but I would have to say that is probably on the higher end of the tier for sure!!!!) I had a tomato clown in my SWFO for 14 years.... When I switched my system to reef I lost him in the transition due to fish bloat... (which I blame on a bacterial infection due to exposing the old critter to a tank cycle!!) I would guess the clown family fish probably last the longest in captivity if not inter breed like what is being done with them as of late. (to get all the morphed strains of colors) from albinos to snoflakes to all black percs or ocelaris missing bars, overbites, & also flattened heads...there r so many.... But these strains will definitely not stand the test of longevity...We already know this......

Yellow tangs can live for 40+ years in the wild, probably 20 years or so in the aquarium would be a long time.

The Tridacna clams can live for really long period of time, Some scientists think the Gigas clams can live a indefinite amount of time if nothing external kills it.

yeah pyramid snails would never be able to eat one of those monsters to death!!!
