Hi All - I am new to this forum.

With out going into too much detail my wife told me I need a hobby...

Years ago I kept a fresh water tank and moved to salt water tank but it failed after a few months (money, time, 10 gallon tank, experience). Now I have a bit more money/time.

What do you folks suggest for an "all in one" system? I've been looking at a couple models:

the ECO mini from ecosystems.com

or the

Red Sea Max

Or are these "all in one" systems just a gimmick? Any other recommendations?

Thanks

She's gonna end up eating those words in a few years when you have a huge tank and spend all your time and money on it :p

I wish my wife told me to get into the hobby. I'd finally have a come back to questions like, "You spent how much? ON WHAT?!"

:w to BRS! Check out the For Sale Forums, people are selling all the time. Good Luck:)

Hi There!

Just a word of advice. Thoroughly research before your purchases, this hobby is make or break for most, depending on the quality of the equipment you begin with. As with anything in life, there are snakeoil salesman everywhere.
I tend to prefer to cherry pick my gear instead of being limited by the plug and play system mentality, and think you can get to any desired overall look without the constraints of plug and play. Best advice, determine your desired species list, then get gear that will best serve them.

Best of Luck!

Lots of good, friendly and experienced people here! Post questions as you come up with them.

I finally just paid my dues. I guess I am convinced that the club is worth it now.:):w

- Now I just need to make it to a meeting. My field sampling season is upon me and I am an expectant father, so maybe this fall will be my 1st time!:D

Welcome to the Club!!!!

I am new too. I got into it with a small Biocube. Now after a LOT of research I have a hand picked system.

I think the plug and play's are great!!! Here's what I have heard;

1) the biocube 29 get's hot due to the lights, but may be one of the best nano systems

2) the Red Sea Max is outstanding and all inclusive. I heard the 1st generation 34 gal had issues they have since worked out.

3) I would have to say the 34 Solana ( like the one for sale here) may be your best bet. Starfire glass, and a reliable, proven system. It also allows for some customizing....which most seem to want down the road.

I cannot comment on ecosystems.

Good luck!!!!
