Hi everyone,
I’m Lily. I just finished my BFA, where I focused on ceramics with the long-term goal of creating custom reef-safe installations for saltwater tanks. I’ve been slowly carving out a path that blends sculpture, science, and reef-keeping to make the realms of Fine Art and Science more accessible to the general public. I hope to be able to inspire people to be passionate about our oceans and our planet!
Most of my hands-on experience so far has been with freshwater systems, but I’ve recently started setting up my first frag tank so I can start to propagate my own corals, and am excited to deepen my knowledge of coral care and reef husbandry through real-world experience.
I’m currently looking for income (or justifiably unpaid but experience-) producing work that still keeps me close to this world, as I didn't study these ecosystems and pursue this degree to go back to working in a position that doesn't further my career and goals. Whether that’s helping out at a shop, assisting with tank builds or maintenance, or working alongside anyone in the industry who's open to sharing what they know, I'm just happy to be part of it. I've been sending my resume and writing cover letters to so many of the custom tank companies, coral wholesalers, & aquatics stores in the area, but I have yet to find much luck unfortunately. It's hard not to feel dejected but I'm hoping here I can meet some folks who can point me in the right direction as I don't want to give up on this! I’m also in the very least beginning the process of finding a studio space so I can keep building out my portfolio of reef-safe sculptures and custom tanks, and I’d love to stay connected to the reefing community while I do.
If you know of anything or just want to talk about reef design, I’d be grateful to connect.
Best,
Lily
