I only use media bag filtration in my biocube 8 and have always (initially) rinsed it under tap water to flush the fines out. Knowing that our city/town water varies by source and location, Is it advisable to rinse under tapwater? I have battling red brush? algea for awhile now.

I have also heard that carbon gets activated (etched) in a factory with phosphoric acid. Also hear that granulated activated carbon will leach compounds after they reach capacity. Any opinions are welcome.

I have always rinsed my carbon and gfo under tap water and never had an issue. Yes most carbons and gfo will leach stuff back out after it is spent. That is why you change it before it is all used up.

I try and only rinse stuff in rodi but get lazy sometimes and use tap water shouldn't be a big deal

Glad to hear it is not a bad thing. I thought it was the best way to rinse out the dust instead of swishing around in my bottled distilled water. But now I am conecting my Spectrapure RODI maxcap unit so I will be in a better position for water changes. Thanks guys.

I rinse my carbon and Phosguard in my sink. (have well water)

Thanks, it gives me confidence.
