Is my flow and filtration enough?

My 40 gallon has been setup for about 4 months now and I just recently took out the emporer 400 filter I had in it and added a aquaclear 50 and a 15 gallon sump (which will also become a fuge). My sumps return pump is a Rio 1400 that is tee'd off so that most the return falls back into the sump. So all that stuff is all thats providing flow for my tank now. I dont know how to measure my flow, do you guys think thats enough? Also for filtration all Im using is the 44 lbs LR in the tank. Is that ok?

THanks!

I'm not familiar with the flow rates of those pieces of equipment. You may want to either look on the box they came in, or look on marinedepot.com or something to see if you can find what the GPH (gallons per hour) says. Then, add them all up for total GPH and post here.

The total gph for my pumps is 690. When members talk about a certain amount of flow you should have in your tank, are they saying directly, via powerheads and such? Or does the return pump I use in my sump count even though most of its flow is sent straight back into the sump?

Flow is in the tank, pump output less head loss plus power head and or closed loop flow.

Make sure your aquaclear powerheads are screened....I lost a sally lightfoot crab to an aquaclear 70 that the screen fell off of.
