Jay's to Seaworld

So I went to Jay's today picked up a few things then shot over to Seaworld, never been before...Guess who is working there? Steve from Jay's!! Thought it was kinda strange.

Anyway Seaworld looks pretty good..alot of tanks but not to much in the form of livestock huh? I guess they are working on it... what was nice I didn't see any algea in any of the tanks. Is it just me or does seeing aptasia and bubble algea in a retailers tanks bother you?

Except for a new store, it is almost impossible for a retail store to have absolutely no nuisance algae or a few aiptasia. but they should not let it get out of control (IMO) and there are some that it runs wild in. I would not want to buy a Coral for my tank if it is surrounded by a bunch of pests I do not want in my tank, that's for sure.
Now some algae on the sides or back of the tank (IMO) is healthy for the tank and food for some critters. But again, not letting it get out of hand is the key.

It can be hard to do in some busy retail stores, but it just means a little more time spent than just open to close, and that is something that is hard to get out of many employees.

Honestly I had no clue what aptasia was until I got it in my own tank so now I always notice it..didn't see any at seaworld though and I looked..

How the heck do they control it to train fish?? Damn I just barely got rid of what I had and I still keep my fingers crossed.

I'm sure it's in a seperate tank from the main system.

I had one aptasia about 2 yrs. ago in my 55 gallon that came in on a green pipe organ frag.It must have been hidden in the growth.
I killed it with Joes Juice and have never had another one.
A lot of time aptasia in the LFS is in very hard to reach areas.Like under frag shelves made from egg crate.

I'm new to the game still have alot of catching up to do. But I love these site, helps me out alot I feel like if there ever was problem I at least have a team backing me up. I guess The only real question I have is what's ? "aptasia" can someone put up a picture of it I want to be able to see the signs before it hits my tank ?

FWIW the sump on their (seaworld) coral system cracked not long ago and they shut all the coral tanks down for a while.

So, basically B nailed it, it is a brand new system

OOo I see now thanks for that I would of thought it to be some kind of coral life I had found a few web site that stated some time with shippments of live rock you get some critters like emarld's and snails and stuff I wrote it off as freebie's didn't reallize it could do my tank and harm. thanks you see you do learn something everday ..

What will come? Why would you say something like that? BTW it's "Their" not "There" Almost like you want it to happen..that's bizzar...I hope lots of inventory is to come...mostly hermit crabs and snails nobody ever seems to keep them in stock and if they do they are teenie tiny ugh!!

Your probably right...I'm a little testy lately I pulled an mcl and my knee is killing me so I'm a tad frustrated...
