Hi There - I recently finished my 60 cube build; all the equipment is in the basement with a low turnover return pump, so the display tank is VERY quiet. Silent. Since I want to keep SPS eventually I am experimenting with different flow options. Jebao RW-8 seemed really interesting so I got one to see what it's like. Have had it running for a few months now. Overall I love it - the flow is amazing, very adjustable, lots of cool programs. But the noise - at flow settings 1 or 2 it's just barely audible. But anything higher and it starts to sound like a little jet engine, which is especially apparent in any of the wavemaker modes where the pump cycles on/off or worse ramps up and down where you can hear the controller's frequency modulation.
Again, this is in a very quiet room - I assume most tanks have skimmers and sumps and other pumps, but mine is silent in a silent room, and I want to keep it that way. At this point I am thinking of trying RW-15 to get more flow without additional noise, assuming it's just as quiet on the lowest settings. MP40 just seem crazy expensive and from what I understand are not completely silent either (and I am not sure they are the best option for a cube tank).
Anyone else running completely silent SPS tanks? What other flow options are out there outside of closed loops with remote pumps?
