Jebao RW-8 noise (and other options)

Hi There - I recently finished my 60 cube build; all the equipment is in the basement with a low turnover return pump, so the display tank is VERY quiet. Silent. Since I want to keep SPS eventually I am experimenting with different flow options. Jebao RW-8 seemed really interesting so I got one to see what it's like. Have had it running for a few months now. Overall I love it - the flow is amazing, very adjustable, lots of cool programs. But the noise - at flow settings 1 or 2 it's just barely audible. But anything higher and it starts to sound like a little jet engine, which is especially apparent in any of the wavemaker modes where the pump cycles on/off or worse ramps up and down where you can hear the controller's frequency modulation.

Again, this is in a very quiet room - I assume most tanks have skimmers and sumps and other pumps, but mine is silent in a silent room, and I want to keep it that way. At this point I am thinking of trying RW-15 to get more flow without additional noise, assuming it's just as quiet on the lowest settings. MP40 just seem crazy expensive and from what I understand are not completely silent either (and I am not sure they are the best option for a cube tank).

Anyone else running completely silent SPS tanks? What other flow options are out there outside of closed loops with remote pumps?

I just had to replace all 3 of my jebaos. They all went out within ten days of each other. At the cost of replacing a wp25 and 2 rw-8 jebaos I just decided to get the mp40 quiet drive and it more than replaces the jebaos. It is extremely quiet IMO and moves some serious water. You really can't beat the controllability of the vortechs either.

I've had several pumps over the years and my rw8's have been the most quiet by far. Regular vortech's are LOUD. You could try a "quietdrive" but chances are you'll hear "something". As an aside I've had my jaeboas for over a year and have had no problems. They get a vinegar bath once every month or two and work flawlessly.

Cool, I was not aware of the MP40 Quiet Drive model, will have to investigate. And yeah I am not unhappy with RW8, just wish I could turn it up past 2 power without it starting to get noisy.
