LED Fixture on glass center brace

My latest tank has a pretty good sized glass center brace.

Can a DIY LED fixture be placed on that glass center brace? I am thinking of putting LED in the center, and my 2 halides on the sides.

it depends on what you use for heatsinking, a largish heatsink from heatsinkusa is like 5 lb a foot

I would be nervous about the LEDs getting wet, and or causing heat stress on the brace. I know LEDs don't get all that hot, but heat>glass>splashing water might not be a good thing. Rusty had an oceanic center brace crack because of heat stress from a MH light.

are people running their DIY LEDs open, with nothing between them and the water?

Come see my tank new light have awesome color, might change you mind about the LED's. I use LED's as moonlights.

Yes you can run the LED's with nothing between them and the water

LEDs do NOT get anywhere near hot enough to put any kind of stress on a center brace! I personally would not run LEDs without protection from the water. They are electrical and as we all know, salt water is corrosive!
