Finally enjoying my tank
Imagine my surprise when I came home today to tank full of algae, after that cleared I found out I had a little manjo, and some aiptasia. now tonight I get home and Im looking at a 2nd tank I have with some LR from a fellow reefer, and I see these. I really wouldnt care, because nothing but rock and sand is in this tank. not thinking yesterday I took a pc out and put it into my DT to weigh something down. It was in there for about 24 hrs.

so what the verdict?

am I screwed?

if so how do I take care of them?

Bristle worm, I'm guessin, on the left.

I'd LOVE to know what that is on the right. I get those from time to time in my tank too...

the one on the left looks like a bristle worm. detritus eater, no issue. The second one looks like a pod of some kind, but need a scale to see the size

What Jay said. The one on the left looks like a bristle and the other, an amphipod. All of which are part of a healthy and diverse tank.

man you guys are good, this wasnt a test because I had no idea what they were. I thought bristle worm, because thats all i ever hear about. the smaller on I believe is a pod. It is very tiny, about 1/4 in. so would you just keep it soaking? what do most people do when they get some LR, what should I look out for?
TIA Derek

pods are good...show it's healthy rock

Yea, let the pods go. they are fine. they will be everywhere soon if you have no fish but the fish will start eating them. Some fish, like Mandarins, will survive on mostly pods, so the more the better.

I am wondering how you clear that tank full of algae?

Scrape/scrub, it was mostly all over the rocks. It is a new tank, and I was expecting it, but I added new lights and it really took off. Before alot of it was green, now it seems to be more brown.

normal, again, but if you don't have a REASON to have the lights on....leave them off

I have a couple of things in there that need some light, plus I like to stare at it

I'd say bristleworm as well... Nothing bad IMO and good at cleaning up stuff in the tank just don't get stung by them :p

And def looks like a pod which as stated above is a good thing... I remember when I saw my first one way back when I started the tank and would stare at a tank full of pods and think how cool that was! Now I can't remember the last time I checked for them because of all the pretty corals :o
