Lighting Configuration Opinions

Tank: 140 gal 48x24x29"

I currently have 2 individual 250 HQI pendants with 14k bulbs.

I would like to upgrade to either of the following two 48" AquaMedic Fixtures:

2x250 HQI 10k + 150 HQI 20k in the center
or
2x250 HQI 10k + 2x 54w T5 actinic

I want to get optimal growth and color from my acros. I'm leaning towards the first option with the 3 MHs, but am looking for opinions. Let's see what everyone thinks!

I'm running the 2nd option on a 150 tall (48"W x 30"H) and I personally think it was the best way to go given the depth of the tank. Softies down low seem happy and SPS up high lovin' the light.

Edit - ooppsss, misread the post re. 3rd 20K in the middle - no input there.

Try a single T12 NON VHO bulb for actinic. New ballast and bulb will run you cheap money and be alot easier on your electric bill.

I still can't understand why everyone feels the need to run higher powered actinics and multiples.

its the color of the t5 actinic. people like the better blue color.

I dunno I've been doing an actinic comparison and after testing everything except VHO I arrived at the conclusion that a single t-12 30 watt URI super actinic has the best color in my opinion. I would possibly run 2 just for even dispersion however it's really not necessary.

Hmm, I think you've strayed from the topic of the thread. I'm not comparing actinics at all actually. I am looking for opinions comparing the 2 fixtures listed, my tank is plenty blue already. In fact, I might go towards a slightly less blue look with the 10k setup.

Ahh my mistake, was assuming that the options your looking into were for more blue aka 20k 150 watt or only actinics t-5's.........
