Losing faith in maxijet.....

Murphy's Law
Not sure why but this is the second pump that failed in the past 4 months on me, they were both 4 months old........1 is a 1200 that i use to mix salt, the other was a 400 I was using to feed my fuge, both shafts at the intake side literally burnt at the bushing

Glad it isn't just me. I had one fail right out of the box. Those pumps were the only piece of equipment I had 100 percent success with. No more. :(

HMM I have a few old MJ ( last time I got one was well over 3 years ago )
and have never had a problem wonder if they are usuing a cheaper design now :(

I swapped to the minijet 404, same gph, same company though, time will tell.......

I have a bunch of old ones still going strong. It was a new one I bought two months ago that failed on me. :(

Who knows if it's all the same manufacturing process, but the company has been sold like 5 times.

I know they changed the cord from the old ones to the new ones...The old ones had a thick round cord...(bullet proof) the new one has lamp cord...After a couple soaks in vinegar they start cracking....

Same problem. I have 2 400's running my Calc & Phos reactors and a 1200 on my skimmer plus a 1200 to mix salt. I have to clean them all monthly or the impellers freeze up. I have had to replace both 1200 impellers as well.

Never had a problem with them, do you use two part additives like ESV that can be a problem with pumps.

Jim

I think I have a couple of 1200 bodies...if you need one - unless the impeller died...

the problem is the shaft where the inlet bushing is, the shaft burns up and becomes pitted likely due to the impeller seizing on the shaft..........same problem both times.....one is subject to kalk but its a pump i use in the display to pump into the HOB fuge then back into the display.....The other I use to mix salt, its subject to 150ml esv MG and 90ml esv CA per batch of salt, I clean them regularly.....

Just an FYI the older shafts are metal of some sort....stainless steel? the new ones are ceramic........

The smaller ones had ceramic & the larger ones had SS...They all coming out ceramic now?

yah all of them are ceramic now.....just about all new pumps are coming with cerramic at least the submersibles.....Rio comes that way now also and it apparently fixed the issues they had or at least the pump for the bakpack was revised........

I had a minijet 404 that failed after 2 months. I called aquarium systems and they went me a new one. You might want to give them a call.

honestly not worth the time or at least my time for a pump that costs $20

Well maybe not monetarily but letting them know there is an issue might benefit everyone down the line. For a company with such a good track record they might just make the necessary changes to remedy this so no other have to deal with this. I would hate to see this not turn around I have 3 MJ 1000 that I bought in the late 80's early 90's they still crank, wish they never stopped selling the 1000's in the US :(

sorry greg didn't mean it like that......just don't really have the time....my dc8 never used plugged in once and it blew up is still sitting here also, that cost substantially more.....
