Lost my favorite fish

My Carpenter Flasher Wrasse.

I know they are jumpers but he must have been pretty good at it because the back of the hood is covered with eggcrate. Only had him for 4 months too

Plus I can see him behind the tank but I have no way of reaching him. The tank is at a 45 angle to the wall (kitty cornered? ). I may have drag out the shop vac and drop the hose behind the tank.

Thats a tough lost. My false purcula jump after I had it for over a year. Can't tell when they want to go carpet surfing. That one nice looking fish sorry for your lost.

I'm so sorry about your loss. I lost one of my favorite fishes the same way - through the egg crate and onto the carpet. He was a long nose hawk. I had him in QT for 4 weeks, then 5 days after I put him in the show tank he jumped.

Do you guys think something like this would work? I have a tank with euro-bracing around the top and thought I could fit pieces of plexiglass to make a sloped colar around the top. Any jumpers would slide back in and there wouldn't be any light blockage. I would work out some way to make a section easilly moveable for access.

I think you would block a good bit of light because at low angle the acrylic will become internally and externally reflective, either bouncing the light off, or funnelling it down the inside of the sheet. Why not just use vertical acrylic extending up from the sides?

I plan to get another one down the road but I will put a screen "pet" safe screening on the back of the hood this time.

I think maybe acrylic post on the corners facing straight up and a wrap of screening around the tank at the top maybe better. Only because i think you may have to make it fairly tall. I know wrasse and even my percula clown jump pretty darn high out of the water at times.

Nylon mesh screening works well. I use it to keep cat hair out of my display.

I think it was a "Carpeter" Fairy Wrasse.

I think the vertical acrylic is probably best.

FWIW I am using window type screening. Comes in gray and is very transparent.
